Known to some as Andrew Simmons but to many more as Simplex, the widely acclaimed new solo album of the 32 year-old Terra Firma veteran has hit the ground running, with his solo debut.
A broad move from the usually topical and politically influenced producer of the Terra Firma Crew, the new album is something far from ordinary, and as first impressions are lasting impressions, then Simplex has launched with a bang!
Eager with anticipation the first track notably copping a lot of air time around Australian radio broadcasts, Be Somebody which has been blasting the prime time slots and with requests going into a frenzy! A track that focuses on the Joe Citizen and hardship of achieving what is considered great this track delivers a the charming rendition of an artist still setting the bar high, capturing the vibe of true hip hop and telling a tale of true dedication.
Beautiful Day is a clear indication of what Simplex’s Audio Biography is trying to achieve, and sets the mood for the album, with a positive delivery of heartfelt lyrics over a content but moody piano climb and boisterous chorus melodies, common throughout the album that are going leave crowds tone deaf at live performances.
I Have Nothing comes across showcasing Simplex’s productions skills and shows just why, Terra Firma Crew are such talented musicians, with guitar riffs to startle blues enthusiasts and the classic golden era of hip hop boom bap that Simplex’s flow style harmonises perfectly with.
All in all a punchy, upbeat album, dabbled with emotions of reminiscing and true thought, with high end organs and pianos, uplifting chorus builds and all that class and swagger of a true vet, Simplex drops the ego and negativity common in Aussie hip hop, and leaves you with a feeling that will want will get you up and jump out of your seat, turning up the volume to peak in heavy traffic, or making you bop your head as you walk with songs that will stay on high rotation for the next few months. Don‘t Sleep on it!
Artists included on this album, TERRA FIRMA, RANTO BOKGO, MISS KARLEENA,  MOTION, DELTA, ALERTS, CANDICE MONIQUE.
Simplex is touring around Australia now, performing with such artists as Briggs, Motion and the King of Underground MF DOOM. The new album drops Feb 18th from Obese Records, and is available at JB Hi-Fi and local retailers!
